The launch was attended by Calvin Kan, Group General Manager, Business (Print & New Media) of Star Publications (M) Bhd, Kellee Kam, Principal Officer of RHB Capital Berhad, Norazzah Sulaiman, Director of Group Corporate Services of the RHB Banking Group, and senior management members from both companies.
The strategic alliance between The Star and its prime partner, the RHB Banking Group, attracted around 1,600 teams from schools across the country last year. The competition hopes to boost the intellectual development of our younger generations as well as to encourage the spirit of teamwork amongst the students.
“We are very pleased and honoured to be able to work with The Star again for this year’s Mighty Minds. The RHB Banking Group is committed to bringing the future generation to the forefront of educational excellence. Our children will be the leaders of tomorrow and it is never too early to prepare them for the challenges that they will face in life. This year, we are aiming for a bigger, better competition, so we are very excited, and we hope the students will also be excited about embarking on this journey of intellectual development,” said Norazzah.
The RHB-Star Mighty Minds challenge is open to Malaysian secondary school students. The students will be divided into two categories, lower and upper secondary. Students from Form 1 to Form 3 will be competing in the lower secondary category, whilst students from Form 4 to Form 5 will be competing in the upper secondary category.
This exciting challenge will be held in 14 states nationwide, starting with the preliminary rounds in selected locations. Winners of each category from every state will then compete in the National Grand Finals, which will be held in the Klang Valley. Students will be tested with general knowledge questions, as well as learn to put the fun and excitement back into learning Maths and Science, through the use of cold, hard facts, and creativity.
The RHB-Star Mighty Minds is also held in support of the Government’s initiative in encouraging secondary students to expand and develop their knowledge specifically in Maths and Science. The general questions are incorporated into the challenge to complement the Government’s call for our youngsters to learn and explore the world beyond their schoolbooks. This project is fully supported by the Ministry of Education in Malaysia.
