RHB Banking Group launches new effort under its Corporate Social Responsibility programme
Kuala Lumpur, 16 November 2007 : The RHB Banking Group yet again continues to excel in its role as a responsible corporate citizen by launching a new effort under its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) programme – Missing Children – Reuniting Families.
The fruit of this initiative is the creation of a booklet that offers simple tips on the steps that children should take in preventing violence and to ensure their own safety.
“Like all Malaysian, we react with shock whenever a heinous crime is perpetrated against children. Protecting children from violence is an integral component of protecting their rights to survival, growth and development,” said Datuk Azlan Zainol, Chairman of RHB Bank Berhad and Director, RHB Capital Berhad.
This new effort, with the endorsement of the Ministry of Education, will see primary school children in Malaysia receiving a copy of the booklet which will be distributed through the respective urban schools nationwide.
As a pilot run, the first batch of booklets were distributed simultaneously to 21 primary schools in the Klang Valley today, which includes the school of the late Nurin Jazlin Jazimin; SK Desa Setapak. Also present to help distribute the booklets are En. Jazimin Abd Jalil, father of the late Nurin.
“I would like to commend RHB Banking Group’s effort in introducing an initiative of this nature. I would also like to thank RHB Banking Group for embarking on this effort to create a safer environment for our children,” said En. Jazimin.
A mass distribution of the booklets to the remaining primary schools nationwide will be carried out when schools re-open in 2008.
As prevention is better than cure, it is our sincere hope that the general tips as contained in this booklet will be able to help educate and create awareness amongst our children on crime prevention methods,” said Datuk Azlan Zainol.
This effort to assist the Police to locate the missing children is part of the RHB Banking Group’s CSR programme called “Missing Children – Reuniting Families” that was launched in collaboration with the PDRM on 23 July 2007.
Under the CSR programme, RHB Banking Group will use its resources, specifically its network of about 180 branches nationwide, to disseminate information about missing children by distributing leaflets and posters. The advertisements in the newspapers also come under this endeavour.
