RHB Bank Berhad opens new branch to meet rising demand in Sabah

SABAH, June 8, 2008 - RHB Bank Berhad opened its new branch here today as part of its effort to meet an increasing demand for conventional banking products and services from East Malaysia.

The Branch, located in 1 Borneo, here, was officially opened by Y.A.B. Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Hj Aman Chief Minister of Sabah. Also present were Dato Abdullah Mat Noh, Director of RHB Bank Berhad and Chairman of RHB Investment Bank Berhad and Mr Michael J. Barrett, Group Managing Director of RHB Banking Group.

“The opening ceremony today marks yet another initiative by RHB Banking Group to bring the banking products and services closer to the RHB Banking Group’s customers as well as potential customers,” Dato Abdullah said.

The opening of this new outlet has brought the total number of RHB Bank Branches to 184. In Sabah alone, there were seven branches and 1 Borneo Branch marked its eighth presence in Sabah. In addition, RHB Banking Group has strengthened and solidified their presence in ASEAN region with a number of 7 branches and one each in Thailand and Brunei.

RHB Banking Group has just restructured its organization recently which gives focus on four Strategic Business Units comprising Retail Banking, Corporate and Investment Banking, Islamic Banking and International Banking. Arising from this Transformation programme, RHB now operates on a Group concept, to focus on customer centricity and to reap benefits from scale. Common functions within the Group has also been streamlined and centralised to bring about greater efficiencies and productivity. The new organisation is structured to remove silos and to leverage scale. This was subsequently followed by the re-branding exercise and logo change which was officiated by the Second Finance Minister last month in Kuala Lumpur.

The branch in 1 Borneo will be managed by Ms Tan Guay Kian and she will be assisted by a team of executives to cater to the needs of the customers. Opening hours will be from 10.00am to 6.00pm from Mondays to Fridays and from 10.00am to 4.00pm on Saturdays and Sundays. It will be closed on public holidays.
