PROFILE OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Board of Directors of RHBIM takes an active part in the affairs of the Manager and the unit trust funds under its management. The Board of Directors meets at least once every 2 months to receive recommendations and reports on investment activities from the Investment Committee, set policies and guidelines of the Manager and to review performance, financial and audit reports of the Manager. Additional meetings shall also be convened, should the need arises.

Dato’ Khadar is a Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and is also a Member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants.

Dato’ Khadar is a member of the Board of Directors of Rashid Hussain Berhad, RHB Capital Berhad, RHB Investment Bank Berhad, Astro All Asia Networks Plc and AirAsia Berhad.

TAN SRI DATO’ HAJI HANAFIAH HAJI AHMAD
(Independent Non-Executive Director)

Tan Sri Dato' Haji Hanafiah Haji Ahmad (“Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Hanafiah”) was appointed as a Director of RHBIM on 1st January 2008.  He has over 37 years of experience in business management and has a special interest in accounting for Islamic banks and financial institutions. 

Tan Sri Dato' Haji Hanafiah holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree from University of Malaya, obtained in 1962 and has also undergone the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard University, USA in 1979.

Tan Sri Dato' Haji Hanafiah is the Executive Chairman of Encorp Utilities Sdn Bhd and also sits on the Boards of various companies including UAC Berhad, Institut Professional Baitumal Sdn Bhd, Suditeras Sdn Bhd, Sincere Match and Tobacco Factory Sdn Bhd, Gallant Precision Tool & Engineering Enterprise (M) Sdn Bhd and Empee Sugars & Allied Industries Sdn Bhd. 

Chay Wai Leong
(Non-Independent Non-Executive Director)

Mr Chay Wai Leong was appointed as a Director of RHBIM on 4th May 2007.  He began his career in 1987 as a Senior Investment Analyst for a brokerage firm, Bankers Trust Brokerage (subsequently acquired by Deutsche Bank), in Singapore. Prior to joining RHB Investment Bank, he was for four years the Country Head of Malaysia for Standard Bank, the largest bank in South Africa, where he was also responsible for originating emerging market debt issues and resource-sector banking products in the Asia Region. Prior thereto, from 1996 to 2001, Mr Chay Wai Leong was the Head of Investment Banking for JPMorgan and Jardine Fleming Securities in Malaysia. The team he led, specialising in equity capital markets as well as mergers and acquisitions, had won Euromoney’s Annual Award for “Best Foreign Securities Firm in Malaysia” for four consecutive years from 1997 to 2000. Mr Chay Wai Leong was with Jardine Fleming Securities Ltd in Hong Kong from 1990 to 1996, where he served as Director of Corporate Finance. His main responsibilities were regional coverage-origination and execution of transactions in Hong Kong, China, Philippines, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia. 

Mr Chay Wai Leong graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration in 1987.

He was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of RHB Investment Bank Berhad on 1st November 2006 and was thereafter appointed as the Managing Director of RHB Investment Bank Berhad on 8th October 2007.

SHARIFATUL HANIZAH SAID ALI
(Non-Independent Director / Chief Executive Officer)

Puan Sharifatul Hanizah Said Ali (“Puan Sharifatul”) joined RHBIM in 2006 as its Chief Executive Officer.  She was appointed as the Managing Director of RHBIM on 7th February 2007 upon obtaining approval from the Securities Commission.

Puan Sharifatul has 17 years of experience in the financial services industry. She began her career in the capital industry in 1988 with a bank backed broking house prior to joining Permodalan Nasional Berhad (“PNB”) in 1991. Puan Sharifatul was formally the Vice President of Pelaburan ASN Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of PNB. She has extensive and diverse experience encompassing the field of investment analysis, portfolio management and equity trading. She is currently a licensed Fund Manager’s Representative as well as a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia and a certified Financial Planner. During her tenure in PNB, she also served on the boards of both listed and private companies invested by PNB as a nominee of the state investment corporation.

MICHAEL LIM KHENG BOON
(Non-Independent Non-Executive Director)

Mr Michael Lim Kheng Boon was appointed as a Director of RHBIM on 12th October 2006. He is currently the Chief Operating Officer of RHB Bank Berhad. He held various positions in the banking industry inside and outside of Malaysia since 1973 before joining RHB Bank Berhad in 2002. His last held position in OCBC Bank (M) Berhad was the Senior Vice President & Treasurer. He holds a Diploma in Marketing from Chartered Institute of Marketing (London) and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (Australia), Certified Financial Planner (Malaysia) and Chartered Institute of Bankers (London).

DATO’ OTHMAN JUSOH
(Independent Non-Executive Director)

YBhg Dato’ Othman Jusoh (“YBhg Dato’ Othman”) was appointed as a Director of RHBIM on 1st January 2008. He has held various senior positions in the Ministry of Finance until his retirement in June 2004. He has also served as the Group Chief Executive of Malaysian Kuwaiti Investment Co. Sdn Bhd from 1995 to 1998 and as the Executive Director of Asian Development Bank from August 2000 to July 2003. He was also the Chief Executive Officer of Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional from August 2004 to August 2006. He is currently the Chairman of TH Technologies Sdn Bhd since 1st June 2005. He holds a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) in Analytical Economics from the University of Malaya and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Oregon, USA.

YBhg Dato’ Othman’s current directorships in public companies include RHB Bank Berhad, RHB Islamic Bank Berhad and Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad.

HAJI KHAIRUDDIN AHMAD
(Independent Non-Executive Director)

Tuan Haji Khairuddin Ahmad (“Tuan Haji Khairuddin”) was appointed as a Director of RHBIM on 1st January 2008.  He began his career in the banking industry and was previously with Citibank N.A., Southern Bank Berhad, Bank of Commerce Berhad and Arab Malaysian Finance Berhad.  He has over 35 years of experience in banking and financial services. 

Tuan Haji Khairuddin attended the Advance Management Course at Columbia Business School in New York, USA.
